Description
Yes, just like everything else out there, historic homes in some markets in Northern California are simply hidden treasures waiting for you.
If you are that 1-in-50 person whose lifelong dream is to buy a historic home somewhere and move into it, bring out its innermost authentic beauty, you’ll have a lot to choose from this season.
Two weeks ago, I was re-reviewing the nor-cal marketplace for that past years’ sales, listings, and non-sales of homes which were declared by the listing to have been “historic.”
What the listings tell me is that, with the exception of areas which routinely command a substantially greater price per square foot (such as Sausalito, San francisco, etc.), and those homes on very large parcels of land, the historic homes of Northern California tend to sell below the $1M price mark, and many are available to the buyer at quite an affordable price.
Of course, uniqueness counts, and if the home is special in that its located in a place where it can be admired by a large number of passers-by, such as downtown Sacramento, Old Elk Grove, the main drag of many Old Town areas of cities which are tourist destinations, the price will climb. If the home has a documented pedigree, the price will be higher, even if the home has not been added to the historic register.
True, this type of search is intensive and time consuming, and not possible if you are not a Realtor with access to the internal MLS for the various regions. But, if this interests you, feel free to contact me, and I will pull all the information for you and e-mail it to you.
Yes, few people are dedicated lovers of historic homes to the degree that they will relocate and reorganize their entire lives to live in, and love one of these beauties. But, there are probably just enough of you out there to fill every one of the few historic beauties we have on this coast.
