Hi Suzushiikaze,
Property values in “ghost towns” usually go up when the town turns into an artist community and national tourist destination. ;) There’s a lively mix of people from all walks of life in Jerome. Like many small communities, it is tight knit. It is also a tight real estate market because there’s limited housing available. That’s one reason home values in Jerome continue to rise. I’ve heard many residents say that there’s no need to go on vacation elsewhere because they’re already on vacation here. The views are dramatic, the climate is mild, the pace is slower, and there is little or no crime. There’s plenty of activity uptown but the residential areas offer a break from the liveliness on Main Street. Because of its uniqueness and status as a National Historic Landmark, Jerome is a popular tourist destination.
